Dorothy Marie "Dottie" Hughes of Fredericksburg, VA was born on May 11, 1940 and passed away on August 31, 2021 after a long and happy life.
Dottie was a loving mom, grandma/granny, sister, and friend. Fond memories of time spent together on the farm - along with our appreciation of her grit, intelligence, and life of service will continue to set the example for our family.
She is survived by son Mike Hughes (JC); daughter Laura Hughes; daughter in law Indy Hughes; 10 grandchildren: Melissa, Casey, Curyn, Amy, Leah, Samantha, Brooke, Derrick, Roni, and Bubba; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Judy Willetts, Kelly Johnson, Ida Williams, Jean Payne, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jake, son Jimmy, as well as her parents and 3 siblings – Lil, Mattie, and Buddy Garland. She was ready to see them again in Heaven.
A service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
