BRASELTON, GA. - Joseph Randall Wilson, 87, of Braselton, GA. died at home January 12, 2013 after a short illness.

Born in Redlands, CA., the son of the late Dr. Joseph and LaRuth (Homes) Wilson, Joseph attended Southern California Military Academy, Long Beach, CA for eight years and graduated from Susan Miller Dorsey High School, Los Angeles, CA in 1941. He entered the United States Naval Academy in 1943 at age eighteen and graduated with the 18th Company, Class of 1947 in June 1946. He was Associate Editor of the Lucky Bags and spent his spare time sailing on the Dandy. Joseph also received an MBA from University of Southern California in 1956.

While in the service Joseph served on the USS Cowie (DMSs 9), PCE 871, PGM 16, PC 581, 3 and the USS Furse DDR 882. While serving on the Furse, the hip was awarded Battle Effisciency Pennant for the Atlantic Fleet. Before resigning from he service he was an Instructor in Marine Engineering at the Naval Academy.

Following his resignation in 1954, Joseph joined the Avco Corporation where he stayed until his retirement in 1980. While with Avco, he functioned as Director of Flight Test, Director of Reliability, Director of all Minuteman Re-Entry Systems, Managing Director of Saudi Arabian Coast Guard Operations, and Director of Industrial and Commercial Gas Turbine Programs. Mr. Wilson served six years as Chairman of Personnel Board and three years on the School Committee for the Town of Wakefield, MA. In addition, Joseph served as Chairman of the Republican Party. He also was Vice President of the Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham, MA.

Joseph married Natalie Lyon May in Marblehead, MA in 1950. He is also survived by a son J. Randall Wilson Jr. and his wife Montez of Warrenton, VA, a daughter Susan Lyon Yatsinko and her husband Robert D. of Sugar Hill, GA, a granddaughter S. Rebecca of Sugar Hill, GA, and a sister LaRuth (Wilson) Haverfield of Amarillo, TX.

Graveside services will be held at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead, MA at a later date. Funeral services are under the direction of the Berube & Sons Funeral Home of Salem.
