William Henry Walters, 85, of Marshville, NC passed away on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021.

He was born in Polkton, NC on January 5, 1936 son to the late Thomas Martin Walters and Ellena Dupree Walters.

Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Martin Walters Jr. and sister-in-law Hazel Lee Walters.

Mr. Bill Walters is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Pigg Walters, their two daughters, Sharon Latta (Kit) and LeAnne Searle (Jeff), six grandchildren, Trevor Searle, Dustin Searle (Taisly), Jacob Searle (Makayla), Stephen Latta, Andrew Latta (Lauren), and Nathan Latta; great-grandchildren, Abygail Searle, Sam Searle, and Bexley Searle; a sister Eva W. Bivens (Ben).

Mr. Walters obtained an Associate of Arts from Wingate Jr. College (1956) and a Bachelor of Science from Pfeiffer College (1958). He later earned a Master of Arts from Appalachian State Teachers College (1963) and Graduate Study in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1976).

Mr. Walters was a long-time educator in Union County beginning his career in 1958 as a math teacher at Marshville High School. He was promoted to principal of Marshville High School (which later became Marshville Elementary School) in 1960 and remained there until his retirement in 1994.

Mr. Walters was a dedicated Christian who was committed to serving others. He served in various capacities at Marshville United Methodist Church including Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader, and Board of Trustees member. He served on the Marshville Town Council and also worked tirelessly to help found and run the Marshville Museum and Cultural Center.

Mr. Walters was a family man and a loving father who enjoyed spending time with his wife, his children and grandchildren. He had a wide range of hobbies including golf, collecting train memorabilia and restoring antique cars.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Marshville United Methodist Church, 310 Ross Street, Marshville, NC 28103. Burial to follow in Marshville City Cemetery.

The Walters family will receive friends from 4:00PM until 7:00PM Friday, September 3, 2021 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Marshville United Methodist Church, 310 Ross Street, Marshville, NC 28103.
