James was born August 23, 1977 in Santa Rosa California to Scott and Beth (Chavez) Olson. James continued to live in Santa Rosa, CA until age 5 when the family moved to Sandy, UT. At age 7, the family returned to CA where they took residence in Tracy, CA. James completed his education while at Tracy; graduating from Tracy High and earning a AA degree from Delta College. From there he went to Fresno State and earned a BA degree in Graphic Arts. In 2007 James entered and completed the fire academy accredited program in Fresno. So James lived the rest of his life in Fresno from 1997.

He was preceded in death by Grandparents Herman/Marilyn Olson and Frank/ Ramona Chavez, Uncle Steve Olson, and most recently cousin Liethia Minor. Survivors include his parents Scott and Beth of Tracy, CA; sister, Sophia Orona(Danny) of Tracy ; nephews Andrew and Maria Zamora, Santino & Amerie (Tracy) and Dylan Orona (Tracy); niece Alana Zamora, Valentino & Elizabeth (Manteca, CA); beloved aunts: Shelley, Ofie, Irma, Mona (Leo D) & Helen, uncles: Tony C (Linda) and Frank C (Donna), beloved cousins Katie (Jason) & Makenna, Deegan, Jade, Korie (Scott) &Addie & Brady, Kelsie (Nate) & Emma, Paul, Joshua (Rhondy), Matthew, Romanica, Anthony (Stefanie), Monaline, Nick, Buddy, Michael, Frankie (Maribel), Adrian (Jessica), Phillip (Araceli), David, Aiden & Frankie and many cousins all so precious to him.

James loved family and enjoyed spending any time he could with family and friends. One particular highlight was a trip with dad to New York, touring the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, attending a Yankee game, and downtown New York. James had a dry sense of humor that many folks would not understand, at least immediately. His specialty however was his knack for impersonating voices. On several occasions he recorded a voice on our landline and folks would call up just to hear the impersonation. James loved his sports and had his favorite teams, and would purchase hats for most every team. He loved sports, hats, sneakers and had a large video movie collection. Our dear friend Cmdr Joe summoned up so beautifully James personality: "We are proud to have had the opportunity to meet and work with James at the young age of seven or eight. He would show up to the Royal Ranger meetings in full uniform ready to go and study the word of God. He did follow the Golden rule always being polite, kind and thoughtful. James always made you feel special. Whenever he walked into the room he was always happy and had something to share! Thank you Cmdr Joe.
