She is survived by her husband, Royce Williams; and a daughter, Andrea Williams. She is also survived by a sister, Gayle Helms; and niece, Liz Payne of Lancaster. Other survivors are her sister-in-law, Deborah Bailey; and a nephews, John Bailey.
Vivian graduated from Winthrop College in 1961 with a degree in Chemistry. She then came to Charlotte and studied Medical Technology at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of this training, she went to work in the laboratory at Memorial. One of the highlights of her career was that she did the cross matching of the blood used in the first open heart surgery.
In 1968, Vivian married Royce Williams. They celebrated 52 years of marriage in April of this year. Vivian was an active member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
Vivian enjoyed working with yarn and needles and was a member of the Needlepoint Guild and the Embroidery Guild. Her most recent interest was in Chrismons. She taught a class to a group of ladies at her home church in Lancaster.
Vivian leaves behind a loving family and many good friends and neighbors. We have her handy work to remind us of her.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill. The family will receive friends following the service. A committal service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, September 1, 2021, in St. Luke United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lancaster.
