Leonard was born in Decatur on September 23, 1927, the son of Ephraim and Verda (Hughes) Edwards. He served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. He later owned his own painting contracting business, ABC Painting and Decorating. He married Dolores Barter on October 26, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2011. Leonard was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed Cardinals baseball, fishing, pinochle, and hunting mushrooms.
Leonard is survived by his daughters Sharon (Gary) Weybright of Decatur and Linda (George) Stubblefield of Decatur; grandchildren Scott (Lynne) Weybright, Jennifer (Dennis) Ballinger, Mandy Brown, and Melissa (Rob) Morehead; great-grandchildren Chelsea (David), Stephanie, Brycen, Evan, Grace, Madelynne, Miranda, Andrew, Mary, and Stacey; great-great-grandchildren Isabella, Dylan, and Kimberly; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, three brothers, three sisters, granddaughter Kimberly Williams, and great-grandson Jason Weybright.
