Douglas Whitlock II of Rockville, formerly of Bethesda Md. passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2021. Douglas was the beloved husband of sixty-seven years to Rose Marie Pierce Whitlock; father of Susan Whitlock Catalano (Samuel), Charles Douglas Whitlock (Marcie) and Thomas Ellison Whitlock (Nancy). He was proud "granddaddy Doug" of ten (10) and great grandfather of seven (7). He leaves many other loving relatives and friends.

Douglas was born in Washington, DC on November 20, 1932 to Mary Ellen (Jenkins) Whitlock and Douglas Whitlock. He is survived by sisters Marilyn Whitlock Loeffler (William) and Sandra Whitlock Driscoll (Theodore). Shortly after graduating from Duke University and marrying Rose Marie in 1954, he was commissioned at Quantico and served honorably as a First Lieutenant in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War. During that time, he served extensively in the Middle East. After his service in the Marines, Douglas worked as an executive for several major US corporations counseling them on public policy issues and then worked in the hospitality industry for almost thirty years.

He had an avid interest in history. He was well read, particularly on the period of the Civil War, touring numerous battlefields with family and friends. He loved to scuba dive and to sail where he was always at peace on the water.

A Graveside service and interment will be at Rock Creek Cemetery, 201 Allison St. NW, Washington, DC 20011 on Thursday September 2, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
