Mike graduated from Hurricane High School and attended college for Military achievements. He was a US ARMY E6 Veteran, in which he served many years. He was a very patriotic man who loved his country and his family. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He worked as a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and riding ATV's and motorcycles. His greatest love was being with his family and especially spoiling his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Teonia Hager Atkinson; Mother-in-law, Mary Hager, sons Tommy (Aimee) Bennett of Sandyville, Jacob (Chrstina) Bennett, David Michael Atkinson Jr, and Matthew (Amber) Atkinson all of Ripley. Brother James Fletcher (David) sister Barbara Fletcher Quentrill (Ronnie), Lisa (Pete) Rogers. In addition Mike was blessed to be survived by his biological family. Sisters, Darlene Steele (Jamie), Diane Kyser, Gloria Kay Vannoy (Paul). Brother Eddie Atkinson (Michelle). In laws, Dana (Loretta) Hager, Jill (Kent) Gill, and Stuart (Jenny) Hager. Mike was also very close to his aunts, uncles and cousins. He cherished his entire family and the several friends made throughout the years.
Mike had a host of grandchildren. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all which he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Tommy Hager, brothers' in-law, Lionel Quentrill and David Kyser.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday, September 3, 2021 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, WV. Friends may call on the family from 11am-1pm.Graveside services (full military rights) with Pastor Aaron Melhorn officiating will follow in the Fairplain Cemetery in Fairplain, WV.
