Funeral Service For Aged Resident Held Wednesday At 2 O'Clock In Automba Church
Gust Mattson, 84, one of the few remaining pioneers of the Kettle River community, passed away at the Matt Rengo residence near Automba Thursday afternoon at one o'clock. He had been cared for by the Rengo family the past four years.
Mr. Mattson was born in Finland August 26, 1860. He came to America when a young man, and settled in the Kettle River community, about 50 years ago.
He had been married twice, but both wives preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Apostolic Lutheran church, Automba, with the Rev. Walter Isaac of Deer River officiating. Burial was made in the Synod Lutheran cemetery, Silver town.
Survivors are two daughters and three sons: Mrs. Louis Mayer, Galena, Ill.; Mrs. Verner Lake, Virginia, Minn.; the sons, Ed Mattson, Cloquet; John E., Alvwood, Minn., and Gust, also of Alvwood. Rengo brothers, Kettle River, are nephews of the deceased. [typed as written]
