Gary graduated from Marietta High School in 1965 and attended Ohio University and Washington State Community College. Gary served in the US Army and US Navy. He retired from Eramet in 2011. He was a member of the American Legion Post 64.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, vacations at Nags Head, NC, playing softball for many years at Hadley Field, and hunting.
Gary is survived by his wife Theresa, daughter Jill (Scott) Long of Beverly, OH; son Seth Thomas of Marietta; grandchildren Alexandra and Spencer Long; brothers Leland (Heather)Thomas, and Keith Thomas; in-laws: Ken (Julia) Strahler, Joanne Rogers, Charlotte (Paul) Magnani, and Elizabeth Strahler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson James Ray Thomas, and brother Lee Thomas; in-laws: Marilyn and James Morgan, and James Rogers.
The family wish to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care.
Per his wish, Gary will be cremated. A military graveside service will be held at St.
Mary's Cemetery at 11:00 am, Saturday (Sept. 4). Mask wearing is encouraged. ,
