David died ca Jan 1879 in Henry Co., AL..from "The Legacy of the Hartzog and Hardy Family" by Virginia Hardy Buckalew...In Nov 1850 David Hartzog went before the Barbour Co. Judge of Probate and stated he was 56 years old, and that he had fought in the War of 1812. He went out as a substitute in 1813 for two months. He served again in 1814; and there later was drafted in Orangeburg Dis., SC in Feb 1815, started, got to Savannah River, waited there for orders and peace was declared. He was honorably discharged at Edisto Island SC in Sep 1815, and two land warrents were issued to him for his service.On June 8, 1878, Rebecca (David's 2nd wife) filed claim for a pension as his widow. She stated that David Hartzog was 5'10" tall, dark hair, dark eyes, fair complexion and that he died at his residence in precinct #13 in Henry Co., AL on Mar 27, 1877. The following have been the places of residence of her husband...Cox's Mill Barbour Co.,; 1861 Lowndes Co., AL; and in Henry Co., at time of his death.per Early Settlers of Barbour County, Alabama (Volume 11) by Marie H.
