Geraldine "Gerrie" Thomas, age 77 of Bessemer, Al went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2021, where she was reunited with the love of her life, Rev. James R. Thomas, Jr. Gerrie loved cooking, gardening, singing hymns in the church choir, the Atlanta Braves, and her beloved Auburn Tigers. Most of all, Gerrie loved her family. She was affectionately known as "Nana" by her grandchildren and great grandson. She could often be found with a smile on her face and a story about her family, she loved spending her weekends on Lake Martin. She was a Southern cook, who was known for her desserts, fried chicken and sweet tea. Gerrie grew up in Bessemer, Alabama graduated from Bessemer High School. She was employed as Cafeteria Manager at McAdory High School and in the Hoover School System, retiring from Bluff Park Elementary in 2003. Gerrie loved serving children and always remembered her students names, she loved the Lord with all the heart and in everything she did.

She was precededed in death by her husband, James R. Thomas, Jr. and her parents, Alloway Horton and Ethel Garner, her brothers Veo Horton, Donny Horton, Lewis Horton and sister, Edna Brookshire. Gerrie is servived by her children, Kara (Rick) Kaldrovics, Greg (Sherri) Thomas and Dawn (Brian) Cox; grandchildren, Ragan (Paul) Stone, Luke Thomas, Savannah Thomas, Hudson Cox, Tyler Rice, Jessica Lowe and Sarah ciszek; sister, Peggy Meadows; brother, Jimmy Horton and great-grandchild, Jack Leary Stone.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00 p.m, followed by Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
