Sara Giglio Smith, of Shreveport LA, passed away peacefully in Huntsville AL on July 30, 2021, surrounded by her three children.

Sara was born on July 4,1943 in Shreveport, LA where she attended St. Vincent's Academy and later obtained her college degree from Centenary College. She worked many years as a medical technician at the VA hospital. Beckman Instruments recruited her in 1978, and there she spent the greater part of 35 years holding various positions in sales, service, and automation. During that time, she continued her education by obtaining a Masters of Microbiology and Immunology from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Travelling for Beckman opened up opportunities for her to develop many life-long friendships all over the country.

Opposites do attract! Sara was married to the love of her life,Dewey "Bo" Smith, Jr , for 45 years, dedicating themselves to each other and to their three children. She was a passionate person, always striving to be the best she could be and expected no less from the people she loved. No obstacle stood in her way. Anyone that knew her is familiar with her "Sara'isms"—those little sayings that she routinely passed on for inspiration. "Knowledge is power!"

Now Sara's work here is done. God called and outbid Beckman with an offer she could not refuse. The offer comes with a huge sign-on bonus and a reunion with her husband, parents, and friends and family that left before her. He will take her to a wonderful place where love and laughter are guaranteed. She can socialize to her heart's content and indulge in delicious food without ever gaining an ounce. Reading the food labels is no longer a necessity! But no one here is forgotten. Detailed instructions were left for her children, grandchildren, family and friends, and anything less than strict adherence to these instructions will not be tolerated!

Sara is survived by her three children, Katherine Smith, Dr. Jason Smith and wife, Michelle, and Alexis Parker and husband Larry Parker M.D.; her four grandchildren, Batts Parker, Merrill Parker, George Smith, and Sara Smith; and her siblings; Joseph Giglio, Priscilla Casey, John Giglio, and Vincent Giglio Jr.

A memorial Mass with be held at St. Mary of the Visitation in Huntsville, AL at 2:00 pm on August 6, 2021 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Middlefork Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation, created to honor both Bo and Sara.
