Civil War Veteran, Blacksmith. Married 1862 Catherine Stinger. Lived in Ohio, PA, Cleveland, NY area and Canastota, NY. Was father of 11 children.

Henry S. Hoose, Civil. War veteran,
aged 83 years, died at his home on the
homestead Sunday afternoon. Mr. Hoose
had been in failing health for some
years and had been totally blind for
more than a year. He was born at Coxsackie,
son of Joseph & Rebecca Hoose, but had been a resident of Canastota
for 37 years. By trade he was a
glass factory blacksmith. During the
War Mr. Hoose was a member of Company
K. 110th New York Volunteers Six
children survive, Charles A. Hoose, Huntington,
W. Va.; Mrs. Joseph Sheets,
Syracuse; Ford of Utica: Mrs. Horace
Lindley, Mrs. Fred Merithew and Mrs.
Elmer Snyder of this village. There are
23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren,
who survive, besides the widow.
The deceased had four grandsons in the
World War, The funeral was in charge
of the Reese Post, G. A. R., of which the
veteran was the chaplain for many years,
and was held from his late home on t he
corner of Tuttle avenue and Third street,
at 2 p. m. Wednesday. The Rev. W. V.
Te Winkle officiated and burial was made
in Lenox Rural Cemetery.
