Resident of of Mashpee, formerly of Dedham. Son of George and Josephine (Brown) Russell. He grew up in both Westwood and Dedham and attended Dedham High School. Shortly after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII as a Mineman. His skills brought him to Hiroshima, where he witnessed the atomic bombing from his vessel. After returning from the war, he worked for the Sturtavent Company in Boston as a machinist. Soon after, he met Eleanor at a municipal dance in Hyde Park, and they were married a year later. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Eleanor (Tiberi) Russell; son, Stephen Russell; son-in-law, Gerald Hassey; sister, Gertrude Wigmore; and brothers, John Russell and Bob Russell. Surviving are his daughter, Jane Hassey, of Mashpee, MA; grandchildren, Jerry Hassey of Falmouth, MA, Ritchie Hassey of Mashpee, MA, and Heather Donohoe and her husband, Larry of Lexington, SC; great grandchildren, Trevor Donohoe of Lexington, SC, Tiffany Hassey of Lexington, SC, and Kayla Burrell-Gaston of Raeford, NC; brother, Fred Russell, and his wife, Jean of Lexington, KY; and great great grandchildren, Robbie and Skylar.
