Deborah L. Adams, Altus resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 2021, at the age of 71.
Deborah was born on June 25, 1950, to parents Forrest Ervin Smith and Effie Mae Maddux in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma and was a member of Lawton High School's graduating class of 1969. She was raised in a military home and lived in several places including Atlanta, GA; Germany; Washington D.C.; Lawton, OK and Altus, OK. Deborah married Charles E. "Doc" Adams on September 1, 2005, in Lawton. They enjoyed 16 wonderful years together.
Her first job was Gay 90's in Lawton. Deborah furthered her education at Cameron University where she studied accounting and business. She was employed by Herb's IGA, several branches of Family Dollar, and served as a substitute teacher for Altus public schools from 2005-2010. From 2010-2015, Deborah worked for Wal-Mart and retired in 2016.
Deborah was a deeply spiritual woman with strong faith. She attended the St. John Baptist Church in Altus, where she actively participated in the services. She was extremely passionate about reading and sharing Bible scripture with others. Being able to pray with her friends and family was an important part of her religious life.
Outside of work and church, Deborah enjoyed touring and exploring history. She also liked to assist with design-build projects. Deborah was a bright and cheerful person, traits that were reflected in her colorful clothing and home decor. Her sweet demeanor and genuine kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest Smith and Effie Mae Maddux.
She is survived by her three sons: Jarrod Bettis of Lawton, OK; Stewart Bauer of Washington State; and Jason Bauer of Lawton, Ok; one brother: Craig Alton Smith of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister: Charlotte Hughes of Shawnee, OK; her grandsons: Ryan Bettis and Andrew Bettis of Lawton; great-grandchildren: Hazel Bettis, Preston Bettis and Carson Bettis all of Lawton, OK; close friend, TanJa Queen of Lawton, OK (whom she loved as her own daughter); and a host of other relatives, co-workers and friends.
