John Field was born on Dec 15, 1796 in Bridgewater, MA (renamed North Bridgewater in 1821 and Brockton in 1874), the eldest child of Barzillai and Patty Field. He served from 20 Sep - 13 Oct 1814 as a Private in Capt. Nehemiah Lincoln's Co. in the Massachusetts Militia during the War of 1812. He married Olive Thompson on 1 Nov 1819. He died on January 20, 1866 in North Bridgewater at age 69 and was buried in Union Cemetery (in what is now Brockton).
