Katie Jean Lyle Blake, of Star City, Arkansas, passed away Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pine Bluff, at the age of 82. She was a daughter of the late W. D. "Shorty" and Virginia Nell Fullbright Lyle.

After graduation from Star City High School in 1957, Katie went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Arkansas A & M (University of Arkansas at Monticello) on December 19, 1970, and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas, on May 11, 1991.

Katie was a first grade teacher for 40 years. She taught at Glendale School, Glendale, Arkansas, from August 1969 until 1984, when Glendale consolidated with Star City School District, where she began teaching at Jimmy Brown Elementary School. She retired June 30, 2009.

Reared in the First Baptist Church at Star City, Katie was baptized in that faith, and married in the same church on June 17, 1960. She became a member of Cornerville Missionary Baptist Church, Cornerville, Arkansas, on August 20, 1967, and a member of Prosperity United Methodist Church, Pansy, Arkansas, on April 13, 1995, where she served as organist. Katie also served as pianist and organist at Cornerville Missionary Baptist Church.

Katie was initiated into Mill Creek Chapter #612, Order of the Eastern Star, at Herbine, Arkansas, on March 20, 1969, and served as Worthy Matron in 1984. She was a member of Eureka Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, with dual membership in Star Chapter #608, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the John McAlmont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Pine Bluff. Katie served as Justice of the Peace on the Lincoln County Quorum Court for eight years and as Lincoln County Representative to the Arkansas Quorum Court Members Association for six years. She was a member of the Arkansas Retired Educators Association and National Educators Association.

In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by a dear aunt, Anna Lee "E" Fullbright Blythe, and a special friend, Linda Beth Crowder Kervin.

Katie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vernon Blake, Star City; two sons, Vernon Lyle (Tammy) Blake, Morrilton, Arkansas and Johnathan "Spanky" (Julie) Blake, Star City; brother, W. D. "Mickey" Lyle, Jr., Grapevine, Texas; granddaughter, Kimberlee Anne Koonce, Pine Bluff; and long-time friend, Bill Kervin.

Visitation was at Leek Drake Cemetery, Star City, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, from 1:30 to 2:00 pm. Graveside service was held at 2:00 pm and officiated by Bro. Boyd Savage, Bro. Randall Baker, and Randall Barrett. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Kervin, Bo Kervin, Randy Barrett, John L. Reed, Doyle "Buddy" Cheshier, Kenneth Brockman, Wayne Jordan, Jason Barrett, Johnathan Barrett, Jack Cheshier, and former and retired teachers from Jimmy Brown Elementary School and Glendale School.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Leek Cemetery Fund.
