She was born July 19, 1928 to Jens "Jim" and Alma (Perlenfein) Andersen at Ludden, ND. She attended Guelph school and then attended Ellendale Normal Industrial School. After earning her teaching certificate, Karen taught for 8 years in Guelph area country schools. On June 19, 1954, she married Roland "Archie" Waite. They made their home in Guelph where together they raised their five children, Rhonda, Ron, Sandra, James and Elaine. After their children were grown, Karen enjoyed substitute teaching in Guelph and Oakes. Archie passed away November 5, 2015. Karen continued to live in Guelph until October 29, 2019 when she became a resident of the Oakes Good Samaritan Society.
Karen was active in the Guelph community and the Guelph United Methodist Church and volunteered whenever needed. She enjoyed garden club, birthday club, gardening, hosting coffee parties, playing whist and singing with the Sing-n-aires. Her greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly remembered for her homemade buns, caramel rolls, rhubarb pie and potato salad.
She will be forever loved and missed by her children, Rhonda (Dean) Reese, Ron Waite, James Waite (Cheryl), and Elaine (John) Maddock; her brother, Howard (Joan) Andersen; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Sandra.
