Wade Griffith Johnson, Sr., 83, of Berryville, Virginia, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 in a local nursing home.
Mr. Johnson was born January 15, 1932, in Green Springs, Virginia the son of the late William T. Johnson, Sr. and Gladys Knight Johnson.
He served in the U. S. Air Force for 4 years.
He retired as the superintendent for Clarke County Public Schools.
He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Berryville, American Legion Post 41, and the Rotary Club of Winchester, VA where he received the Paul Harris Fellow award and had 46 years of perfect attendance.
He married Mary R. Johnson on November 25, 1998, in Berryville, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Louise Jaffe and her husband, Harry; a son, Wade G. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Jann; a step-daughter, Cynthia R. Miiller and her husband, Tom; a step-son, John E. Renner and his wife, Angela; two granddaughters, Logan Johnson and Catherine Lewis; a grandson, Colin Johnson; two step-grandsons, Daniel Renner and John Renner; two step-granddaughters, Liz Miiller, all of Berryville, and Katie Renner of New York City, NY; a sister, Martha Ann Bourne of Richmond, VA; and a brother, Donald Johnson of Charlottesville, VA.
Two brothers, William T. Johnson, Jr. and Ralph Johnson and three sisters, Vivian Vawter, Emily Leake, and Mae Corker preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be private.
