BARBARA ANN HOLT (AGE 70) OF CLINTON, MARYLAND.

On, July 30, 2021, in Clinton, Maryland, Barbara Ann (Smoot) Holt passed from this world into eternal life after a short battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Ozzie and Dorothy Cecelia Smoot, two sisters, Dorothy (Smoot) Wood and Marian (Smoot) McCray, and a brother, William O. Smoot, Jr.

Barbara was born on September 16, 1950 in Pomfret, Maryland. She was educated at Charles County Public Schools and graduated from Frank W. Ballou High School. Barbara moved to Washington, DC, where she work for 38 years in the Federal government. She started her federal career at the Navy Annex as a File Clerk. She later gained employment at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). At the FTC, Barbara worked as a Secretary and as a Human Resources Specialist. She retired from the Federal Trade Commission in 2008 as the Assistant Director for Operations in the Human Resources Office.

Barbara continued her work in the Human Resources field as an independent contractor. She work with several federal government agencies, including the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carriers Administration, the Selective Service System, the Department of Energy and the Department of the Air Force.

Barbara grew up in the Catholic Church. Later in life, she became a faithful member of New Fellowship Baptist Church and then joined and currently is a member of the Community of Hope AME church family.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid football fan and a Redskins fan for over 50 years. She enjoyed going to the games, both home and away. Barbara enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing games on her iPad. She also enjoyed playing fantasy football, survivor and other NFL games.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; four children: Melissa Glover (Michael), Joseph Smoot (Tangela), Rita Smoot White, and Christina Harris Jones; two step-daughters: Marjorie Wingate and Michelle McCord; one brother: Thomas Smoot; one sister: Veronica Matthews; sister-in-law Debra Moses; ten grandchildren: Robert and Rodney Grant, Joseph Smoot, Jr., Brenee Ruffin, Tatyana Shelton, Tyree Shelton, Steven Smith; Isis White, Indya White; Christiana Jones; seven great grandchildren: Zoey, Imani, Jordyn, Robert IV, Siya, Rodney, Jr. and Milo; six nephews: Eddie Smoot, Michael and John Wood, Richard and Derek Matthews, Ronald Smoot; six nieces: Janice Proctor, Barbara Wood, Cynthia Carter, Erica Williams, Lisa Lyles, Carla Lyles, six great-nephews: Marc, Andre, Jared, Darius, Darren, Cortez; five great-nieces: Giovonne, Gabrielle, Giselle, Keyonna, Tashea; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her Viewing will be, 10:00 am, until time of Service, 11:00 am, Monday, August 9, 2021, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, National Harmony Memorial Park, 7101 Sheriff Road, Hyattsville, Maryland 20785.
