William J. Holmes, affectionately known as, "Bubba's Boy, Bill, Uncle William, Uncle Daddy and to the elders That Boy". William departed this life on Monday August 23, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. William was born in Sumter, South Carolina on October 22, 1954, to the late William N. Holmes and Eleanor Bowens Holmes.

William was educated in the public schools of Sumter County; determined spirit and value for education resulted in him graduating from Sumter High School in 1972. He enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served from 1972 -1976 and was discharged honorably. William was employed in the Sumter area then relocated to Rhode Island where he continued his career as a long-distance truck driver.

William was united in matrimony to Kim Williams . May 25, 1996. He was a devoted husband that loved his family to life. His hobbies were working on cars and making people laugh with many of his stories.

William was preceded in death by two sisters, his twin Susan Emma Holmes, Lillian Ophelia Holmes, one brother Edward Laws Holmes, father, William N. Holmes; mother, Eleanor Bowens Holmes; grandparents, William Holmes Jr., Susan Emma Bethune Holmes; great-grandmother, Sarah Bethune; and grand aunt, Lou Ida Holmes Mickens; five uncles, Hughie, Wylie, Cleo Bowens, Clarence Holmes, Edward and Isaac; two aunts, Lottie Peterkins and Mary Holmes Isaac.

William leaves to cherish his precious memories and honor his life, his devoted and loving wife Kim; daughter , Tina Lynette Holmes, one grandson, Jeremiah Holmes, five sisters: Shirley Johnson, Iris Mack Holmes, Cathy Holmes, Thomasina Holmes, Sandra Holmes all of Sumter, SC; a brother, Frederick L. Holmes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

This is a COVID-19 compliant service. Masks are required during the visitation and the funeral service.

Graveside services: Beulah AME Church Cemetery, 3175 Florence Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dwayne Bruce, pastor, and Pastor Debbie Bowens-Davis officiating.
