Horace Nelson Nickerson was born 12 February 1849 in Holden, Penobscot, Maine, United States to Isaiah Nickerson and his second wife, who had the same name as his first wife Mary Ann Orcutt who had died in 1843. Isaiah married on 4 July 1843 in Holden his second wife, Mary Ann Orcutt, born 11 July 1811 in East Eddington and died April 1879 in East Eddington. She was the daughter of Seth Orcutt and Margaret Fletcher. She had three children with Isaiah Nickerson: Henrietta Godfrey Nickerson (wife of Horatio Southgate Hapworth and my great great grandmother), and Maranda Frances Nickerson and Horace Nelson Nickerson who both died as infants.
