Robert E. Hennessey, age 81 of North Haven and formerly of Bridgeport passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at The Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Married 50 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Curran Hennessey. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late David and Mary Hannon Hennessey. Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He retired from the Bridgeport Fire Department after 28 years of service; he was also a Fire Inspector. He was a member of the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters and a 3rd Degree Knight of the knights of Columbus. Robert was an avid golfer, loved to play cards with the family. He would also love to go down at St. Mary's by the Sea, where he would read his daily paper while drinking coffee and doing his crossword puzzles. He never missed the Bridgeport St. Patrick's Day Parade. Survivors include his son, Kevin R. Hennessey of Bridgeport, daughters, Noreen D'Onofrio and her husband Edward of North Haven, Maura Charney and her husband Kevin of Bridgeport, Sheila Moore and her husband Charles of Jupiter Farms, Florida, eight grandchildren, Beth Torres and her husband Arnaldo, Melissa Davis, Sean Charney and his wife Ana, Bridget D'Onofrio, John D'Onofrio, Charles Moore Jr., Emily Hennessey, and Lisa Hennessey, and eight great grandchildren, Brandie, Vincent, Elijah, Chyanne, Trinity, Alexander, Antonio, and Isabella, two sisters-in-law Ann Curran and Patricia Dooley and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Hennessey and his brother Patrick Hennessey Sr. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:00a.m., from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:00a.m., in St. Patrick's Church, Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
