A public visitation will take place Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Washington; followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, with a reception immediately following. Richard will be laid to rest with full military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
Richard was born January 9, 1940, in Norwood, Massachusetts, to parents Edgar and Helen (Murphy) French.
In 1965, he married the love and catch of his life Martha French at St. Theresa-Avila in West Roxbury, Massachusetts and had three beautiful children together.
Richard served as a submarine sailor in the U.S. Navy from 1962 through 1978. Through his service, he traveled the world and built many lifelong relationships.
After retiring from the Navy, he along with his wife, Martha settled roots in Port Orchard, Washington, where he continued working as a civil servant for Lockheed and Electric Boat.
Once he finally retired, Dick and Martha moved to Sunny Sequim, Washington, to begin their wonderful retirement life together. He continued to enjoy his love of fishing, shooting, and drinking cold brews with friends and loved ones.
Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Martha French; their two sons, Richard French Jr. and Michael French; his sister, Jane Davis; six grand grandchildren, Terrin Saelee, Emily French, Gregory French, Keali French, Ashley Vernon, and Tyler Vernon. He was preceded in death by both parents and daughter Kristin French Vernon.
