Jane graduated from San Marcos High School and went on to get a teaching degree in 1957 from (then) Southwest Texas State Teacher's College (now Texas State University) also in San Marcos.

She married Lynn Ray McDaniel in December 1959 and they were separated only when Lynn Ray died of a rare form of cancer in 2005 (he was one of many sailors exposed to radiation during the Pacific nuclear tests in the early 1950s).

During the first part of their marriage Jane and Lynn Ray moved several times in the Texas and Oklahoma areas due to work. Later they lived for some years in central Texas in and near Gonzales (Tx).

After retiring Jane and Lynn Ray spent several years on a tributary of the Guadalupe Rive 'upstream' from Gonzales though the terrible floods of 1998 all but washed their home away (they rebuilt). After Lynn Ray's death Jane felt the need for a less risky location and she was able to sell the place near the Guadalupe River and move to a senior citizen's retirement facility ('Mariposa') in her old home town of San Marcos.

Jane spent 10 peaceful years back in San Marcos and it was declining health that caused her to move to San Antonio so that her son could take more day-to-day responsibility looking after his mother.

Jane was preceded in-death by her husband Lynn Ray McDaniel, her parents Myrtie & Russel Cooper (most of their married life was in San Marcos), her brother 'Jimmie' Cooper of Staples, and sister Carolyn Miller and husband Keith of Gonzales. Her son and his wife live in the San Antonio area and her daughter, and her children, live on the west coast. Also surviving is Jane's sister-in-law (Jimmie's wife), and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
