Michael David Webb
October 30, 1955 - August 23, 2021

Michael David Webb Born in Fairbanks Alaska on October 30, 1955 to Larry and Patricia Webb. The family lived in Alaska until Mike was about 10, then moved to Anchorage Alaska. His father's job took the family south to the lower 48, first Denver Colorado for a year, then to the Seattle area. The family bought a home in Auburn. Shortly after, Mike's dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Mike was the oldest of 8 kids.
At this point, Mike was, shall we say "lost." One could say that he made James Dean look like an angel. Mike's theme song should be "I did it my way" and not just during this time in his life.
Mike would be the first to say "Truth" and own these statements. And he would tell you, as he did when he was with us, that he became the person he was because of these experiences. He certainly was not proud of many things that he did, but he found a way to find forgiveness.
He started dating MichaelAnn Zufelt in 1977 when Brandon was about 2 years old. They married in January of 1979. They had 4 other children together; Jullian, Justin, Nathan and Jaclynn. They were separated after 14 years of marriage and divorced several years later.
In 1999, Michael found Jesus Christ. The light in him shone so greatly, everyone could see it and believe it. He spent so much energy in immersing himself into his children's lives, making up for lost time, lost experiences. He strived to become the best person, dad, grandfather, son, brother, husband that he could be. It wasn't always easy.
The following is written in his own words from a talk he gave two years ago:
... As a younger man and into my adulthood things sort of got out of hand. I had a lot of potential and did most things well and worked hard at the tasks that were given to me but in the same breath I did a lot of things that were not the smartest. I got myself trapped on a cliff that I could not get down from. I was stuck with nowhere to go.....
So now my life was passing by and I was turning into a raging alcoholic and A drug addict and I thought that was a normal life. My life was rapidly deteriorating......
So, when they hauled me off to jail for the last time, I went kicking and screaming. It was the best thing that has happened to me so far at this point in my life. Little did I know that there would be more but it was there that I learned about the gospel of Jesus Christ my Savior. I remember a man of faith, but not of our faith, talking about Jesus Christ, someone that could help my life better, help me overcome my problems and addictions. Believe me I was skeptical but was overwhelmed by something that I had never felt before. It aroused my curiosity. When he was done talking, I went back to my cell and got a Bible which I learned later to be the basic instructions before leaving earth. At this point in my life never had I read the book from cover to cover. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. It came alive. I read every version of the Bible there was. It opened up my brain and I started pondering and thinking maybe I had a second chance. My heart was full of joy. Like walking on clouds. There was a lot of stuff I didn't get.....
So, during my time in jail, I was able to clear my head and start thinking clearly. I began writing letters to Betty, my mother-in-law who had been taking care of my children for the last seven years. To that point no one knew if I was dead or alive. ...
I kept writing letters and soon some came back from my kids..... A family friend came to visit me in jail and left me a Book of Mormon.....
Finally, the day came to get out of jail. Some say you get God in jail but you leave with him in your pocket. I was standing there on the steps of my in-law's house with no job, no car, no driver's license, no money or a place to stay. What the heck was I going to do? But low and behold the Lord works in mysterious ways. I ended up at Betty and Dale's house. They welcomed me home, like the prodigal son. ....
After countless meetings with the missionaries two years later, I was baptized. It was a long journey but I finally became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.....
As far as my purpose, I am not sure what that is, but I shall remain steadfast in the gospel and doing the best that I can in all things.....
Sometimes I still struggle with all this goodness and I have doubts. But when I open the door for Christ to come in, I have a feeling that is the best I've ever felt in my entire life.....
I am grateful to all the brothers and sisters at church that ministered to me during my time in the church of the latter-day Saints and I hope I can do the same for others. I am grateful for a second chances....
It's this story and the path he took to get there that changed the lives of so many people. He was always looking for ways to bless and help others. His many years in AA support groups influenced more people than we will ever know and the stories keep coming out of the woodworks of how much of a positive impact he had on others.
Michael married the love of his life Cathy Fredrickson on November 10, 2007 in the Salt Lake City temple. He was most happy when he was with her. He was always gentle, kind, and put her needs above his own. He had the purest heart. He wanted to make sure she was happy and knew how much he loved her. Her favorite things about him were his deep belly laughs, sparkling blue eyes and the winks he would give her from across a room. One summer Mike and Cathy spent a month on a cross country road trip. He loved traveling and being on vacation as this allowed him to be free without a care in the world. They were two peas in a pod and were the perfect match for one another.
Between them, they have 11 children, and 29 ½ grandchildren. We all know that Mike made the most of his second, third and fourth chance's. He not only found salvation in his Savior but also in his Family. For Mike, there was no difference between biological and step children, they were all his greatest joy and he would and did everything for them. His grandkids remember him for endless treats, scooter rides to snow cone stands, skiing adventures, crazy money spent at arcades and any chance he could get on the water with his wave runners. Watching sports was one of Michael's favorite pastimes. Anyone that knew Michael knows how entertaining this was to watch. He could be heard screaming, clapping and howling across town.
Many of us knew Mike as the man who could build anything. He loved (and sometimes hated) construction work and creating with his hands. Pretty sure he's already making plans for a massive deck for his Heavenly mansion right now. Construction gave him drive and purpose to excel and he used it as a vehicle to help and lift others out of the depths of despair by employing many in need.
Mike had strong convictions and wasn't afraid to be bold. Mike loved Donald Trump, the Washington Huskies, and forever a Seahawks fan. His favorite sayings were "TRUMP! GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER!" And "GO HAWKS". Mike lived a very rich and fulfilling life. The changes he made in the latter part of his life made up for the struggles he had in the beginning. He showed Christlike love to all those around him and ministered to everyone he came in contact with. Even during the last month of his life while laying in the hospital bed, he wanted to order cookies for the nurses who had been taking care of him. He was a man that will never be forgotten and his memories will live on within us forever.
Michael was proceeded in death by his father Lawrence Webb and his sister Lori Preston. He leaves behind his wife Cathy, his 11 children, Brandon, Jullian (Jeremy), Justin, Nathan (Jill), Jaclynn, Jason (Melissa), Misty (Glade), Joshua (Karley), Bailey (Jeff), Ali (Justin), Robert (Ali) and his 29 ½ grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Corri Rathbone (Russ), Cheryl Koschmann (Tim), John (Diane), Joyce Bettridge (Dan), Melinda Stoeckle (Ralph), Rudy.
