Army Major General. Weliver served more than 40 years in the Army and Indiana National Guard, retiring in 1980. During the Second World War, he served with the 38th Infantry Division, a unit which engaged Japanese forces longer than any other U.S. forces and earned the nickname "The Avengers of Bataan" from General Douglas McArthur. Weliver established Weliver Transport, a trucking firm, in 1947. He served as commander of Indiana National Guard units in Crawfordsville and Lebanon and, at the peak of his career, was the commander of the 38th Infantry Division in Indianapolis from 1976-1980. Weliver also served as Crawfordsville's police comissioner and on its Economic Development Committee and Aviation Board.
