Shawn graduated from Ferndale High School in 1981 and it was there she met her true love, Jim, who she said still gave her butterflies even after more than thirty years together. She held several jobs following graduation, including working as a travel agent and an administrative assistant, until she decided to be a full-time Mom and homemaker. Shawn was very involved in her children's lives, schools and extra-curricular activities, and also had a huge family and circle of friends. Because of Shawn's warm and welcoming ways, there were always visitors at the Holland household. In addition to family gatherings and being with friends, Shawn also enjoyed cooking, wine tasting tours and country music.
While Shawn's passing is devastating to all who knew her, there is peace in knowing she always lived her life to the fullest, doing more in 49 years than most could do in twice that time. She brightened the life of everyone she met, always with a beautiful smile and contagious laugh that could be heard from across the room. Shawn's positive attitude and zest for life continued during the three years she courageously battled cancer (melanoma); she never gave-up, and was always a source of strength and inspiration to those around her.
