David Lyle Kemler McKenzie,of Rochester Hills, June 20, 1944-August 23, 2021, age 77. Beloved son of Gail J. the late Donald G. Kemler, dear brother of James D. Kemler, Charles E. (Winifred) Kemler, and Ruth E. Kemler (William) Hugo. Father of Katie McKenzie, grandfather of Avery Quinn Wolcotte. Fun loving uncle of Jennifer (Mark) Kaski, Mary (Charles) Baily, William (Armo) Kemler, Paul Kemler, Matthew Kemler, Sarah Kemler (Michael) Tison, Prescott (Kimberly) Kemler, Christiana (Jonathon) Hugo Hills. Also survived by his beloved former wife Michele Kilar Kemler and multiple great nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a graduate of Rochester High School Class of 1962. David graduated from Michigan State University in 1966 with a degree in Advertising. Later he received a second degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from MSU in 1977. Being raised in a family of strong Christian faith, he was a life-long member of First Congregational Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees, Board of Deacons and as an usher.

David's early career included managing several country clubs and restaurants later he followed his passion for woodworking by becoming a finish carpenter, working for his nephew Prescott Kemler of Bearing Point Construction, with his specialty being custom staircases in up-scale homes in the Rochester area.

Active in the Rochester Community, David was a long-time member of the Rochester Lions Club where he served in multiple offices including twice as President. He was also Zone Chairman, Regional Chairman and on the Board of Directors. He received various awards including Lion of the Year, received the highly esteemed Melvin Jones Award twice. In 2018 he was presented the President's Award from the Leader Dogs for the Blind. It recognizes advocacy, volunteerism and philanthropy. His work impacted thousands of people he never met

Most importantly, he will be very much missed as the care-giver during the past 20 years for his 104 year old Mother, Gail J. Kemler.
