John was born on March 4, 1931, in Marceline, Missouri, the son of Joseph A. and Lou Thena (Heether) Burnside.
John graduated from Carrollton High School in 1949. He married Rebecca Sue Morrison on October 20, 1949. To this union, one son, John Morrison, was born.
John worked numerous places throughout his lifetime including: Waddell Lumber, First National Bank, Claude Smith's Grocery, Banner Biscuit Company, which later became United States Baking Company, and Uhrig Farm Equipment. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Carrollton, and later affiliated with other churches. John was a member of the Wakanda Lodge #52 AF&AM, the Lexington Chapter #10 Royal Arch Masons, and the DeMolay Commandery #3 Knights Templar. He was involved in the early planning of the Carrollton Airport, and enjoyed bowling when he was younger. John was an avid reader and Sudoku player and since he played football while in high school, he loved watching the football games on television. He spent many hours at the Carroll County Senior Center where he helped out by clipping coupons. He also enjoyed spending time at the Carrollton Public Library. Everyone will miss his smile and pleasant personality.
John is survived by his wife Rebecca; one son, John Morrison Burnside, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and one brother, Joseph Archibald Burnside, of Chico, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James Lowry Burnside.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North US 65 Highway, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Anselm Williams officiating.
