He was a native of Coffee County, but he lived most of his life in Waycross. A U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, Layton retired from Wal-Mart, and he attended University Blvd. Church of God.
Layton was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Royals and Ethel Davis Royals; his wife, Janie Ava Nell Corbitt Royals; and his sister, Sarah Morgan.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Bell (Virgil) of Waycross; his son, Timothy Royals (wife Brittany) of Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Brandon Lewis, Zack James, Madelyn and Mason Royals; one great grandson, Aiden James; one sister, BettyJo Summerlin of Nashville, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
