World War II US Marine Corps Veteran. Cpl. Robert E. "Bobby" Peurifoy was born and died in Concord, North Carolina. He was a son of the late Lillian Scott Peurifoy and William Clarence Peurifoy. At age 16 he entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he saw action in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart three times. He received a bronze star and a silver star in the battle of Saipan. He received a second bronze star for action at Iwo Jima. He entered the Marine Corps at age sixteen. He served with Co. B, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine, 4th Marine Corp. He was with Sgt. Darrell Cole Medal of Honor recipient, when Sgt. Cole was killed in action on Iwo Jima.

As a young man he lived on Meadow Street in Concord with his mother Lillian. He worked in the movie theater, carried newspapers and working as a Life Guard for the YMCA camp. He attended Concord High School until he enter the Marines Corps. In his 40's he went back to school and earned his GED.

For most of his adult life Bob Peurifoy worked in the textile industry at the Power Plant, Cannon Mills, Plant #1. In 1977 he was in an industrial accident which left his lungs permanently scarred. From this he was able to receive disability.

He enjoyed attending his 4th Marine Division reunions. He took an active part of the Carolina's Chapter. For over 35 years he enjoyed traveling with his wife Hazel. Their camping trailer was all over the east coast of the United States. They were founding members of the Carolina Cardinals Camping Club of the National Campers and Hikers Association. Following his disability retirement they spent much of the winter in Florida in their trailer.
He was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church where he served on a number of committees. He was often the delegate to the Annual Conference of the Western North Conference of The United Methodist church

Bob Peurifoy was married to his wife of 59 years, Hazel Staton Peurifoy. His three Children: Daughter Patricia "Trish" Carol Peurifoy Lanier of King, North Carolina, Rev. Dr. Robert C. Peurifoy of Sugar Grove, North Carolina and Jeffrey Lynn Peurifoy of Gainesville, Georgia. He was the grandfather of Rebekah A. Peurifoy and the late
Nathan Peurifoy. He has joined in death by three brothers, William Clarence "Buck Peurifoy of Concord, North Carolilna and David Grier "Doc" Peurifoy of Rockwell, Maryland, and Raymond "Pat" Peurifoy of Laurinburg, North Carolina and his sister Elizabeth "Libby" Peurifoy of Flagler Beach, Florida. following him in 2012.

His family is very proud of his accomplishments.
