Adelina A. Hathorn was one of 12 children born on January 12, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Paul Allen Sr. and Wilhemina Polk-Allen. Both parents, 6 brothers, Oscar (Clyde) Allen, Mose "Bob" Allen, George "Nick" Allen, Thomas "Tom" Allen, Odell Allen, and James (Jim) Allen and one sister Margaret "G" Allen Chairs all preceded her in death.
She graduated from Dawson High School, Saint Francisville, LA in 1967 and then, attended Guthrie Job Corp from 1968 -1969.
Adelina met and married James Anthony Hathorn, "the love of her life" on December 25, 1969. She was an excellent wife and James expressed this, reflecting on how supportive she was when she was his Military wife. To this union, 3 children, one son and 2 daughters were born.
Adelina united with Faith Memorial Baptist Church over 40 years ago under the pastorage of the late Reverend Dr. M.A. Curry, Sr. where she remained faithful. She was a member of the Usher Board, Women's Missionary Union, (Sunshine Circle & Ruth Circle), the WMU Chorus and a supporter of every auxiliary of the church. She had a deep belief in Christ and this was expressed in how she lived and shared with others.
Adelina worked as a Telecommunication Equipment Specialist for (Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent), retiring in 2001, after 31 years of service.
She enjoyed life including traveling, shopping, giving to several charities, going to the N.E. Community Center with friends and listening to her favorite song over and over again, ("KoKo, Taylor's "Wang, Dang Doodle").
Adelina, a lady of excellence and a strong woman, took pride in herself and despite how she felt, with her distinct smile, on Sunday mornings, she walked in Faith doors as if she just stepped out of Vogue Magazine. She along with her husband, enjoyed life and it was known to all that he and her family, were the "Apples of her Eye". She never met a stranger, unselfishly loved others, and always had an encouraging word, starting her sentence with "Well, the Good Lord…"
On August 19, 2021, the Lord knew Adelina was tired and called her from sickness, suffering, pain and the labors of this life into eternal rest. She will truly be missed and leaves to cherish her memory, her very devoted husband, James Anthony Hathorn; son, Gordon Emory Hathorn; 2 daughters; Athena Adelina Hathorn and Audrey Genevieve (Joe) Daniels; granddaughter, Mariah Barnes; 2 brothers, Mackie Allen and Paul Allen, Jr.: one sister, Wilhemina White; 2 sister-in-laws, Christine Hathorn and Betty (Lewis) Hathorn; 3 brothers in laws, Nathaniel (Yvonne) Hawthorne, Raymond (Jo) Hathorn, and Jeptha (Dorothy) Holloway and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
