Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, August 26, at Grace Reformed Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Barbara Rose Hart was born on October 19, 1933 in Edmeston, New York to Alfred and Rose (Mertz) Monson. She attended elementary and High School in Edmeston, New York. Barbara was named the Valedictorian of her graduating class. God spoke to her heart at age 16 and she received Christ as her Savior. This would later influence many decisions in her life. She graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College in 1955 with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics Education. She attended Providence Barrington Bible College in Providence, RI, majoring in music and Christian Education. She later took courses at SDSU, Brookings, SD.

Barbara married Howard Ernest Hart, June 14, 1958. He was a theological student and a Sergeant in the Mass. National Guard. He ministered in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the RCUS (Reformed Church in the US). It was always most important for Barbara to keep her home running smoothly, but she did accomplish a variety of activities outside the home. She taught at Schuylerville Central School, Schuylerville, NY; Cranston Public School (Adult Education), Cranston, RI; PA School for the Deaf Philadelphia, PA; Camden Co Christian School, Haddon Heights, NJ; Emery Central School, Emery, SD; Bridgewater Central School, Bridgewater, SD; Henderson Public School, Henderson, NE and Central Technical Community College, Hastings, NE (Adult Education). She also worked as a Dietitian at the Community Home in Sutton, NE, and taught cooking classes for the United Way in Providence, RI. She taught Physical Science at Barrington College, Barrington, RI, and was a music instructor at Grafton Public School, Grafton, NE.

Barbara took an active part in her pastor husband's churches. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, directed adult and children's choirs, did vocal solo work, and played piano and organ for worship services. Her real love was organizing and leading Women's Bible Study groups. In the last 30 years, she enjoyed giving private piano lessons in her home. Another love in her life was being a Mom. She enjoyed teaching, encouraging, guiding, and loving the precious gift God had given them. She gives glory to God for guiding Howard and her through many years and in serving many churches over the United States.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rev Dr. Howard Hart of Mitchell, SD; daughter, Deborah (Terry) Van Zee of New Holland, SD; two grandchildren, Benjamin Van Zee of Lincoln, NE, and Daniel Van Zee of New Holland, SD; great-grandson, Eli Nicoles of Georgia; brother, John Monson; sister-in-law, Barbara of Manlius, NY; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Rose Monson; brothers, Alfred Monson and Richard Monson; and sister-in-law, Vivian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Minister Relief Fund of the Reformed Church in the U.S.
