Virginia Anne Long passed away August 22, 2021, at the age of 87. Anne was born July 16, 1934, in Childress, Texas to Annie Ruth Crews and Carl Farmer. She spent most of her growing up years in Childress.

She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

She married Billy Ray Long on October 4, 1952, in Clayton, New Mexico they moved to Wellington in 1954 and they were married 66 years.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State University in 1968 and her Master's in Education from Sul Ross in 1983.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2018 and her son Barry Allan Long in November 2002, her parents, stepfather Richard Bell and stepsister Nancy Burton.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Belew and husband Mike of Wellington and her son Brent Long and wife Kathleen of Carrollton, she was "Gran" to 5 grandchildren Christopher Belew, Leslie Belew, Tori Harber and husband Dustan, Sarah Dingus, and husband Corey and Thomas Long. Two great-grandchildren Madison & Austan Harber, her brother Crews Bell and wife Pat, sister-in-law Norma Long and two nieces Cheryl Brock & Cathy Hunt.

Anne taught at Wellington High School starting in the fall of 1968 and retired May 31, 1993. During this time, she taught social studies, Chapter One, and special education. She served as student council sponsor, where they made lots of chili for the basketball concession stand and a class sponsor many times.

Member of retired teachers. She was initiated into the Gamma Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society September 14, 1991.

She had an avid love for genealogy. She taught the 55 Alive mature driver improvement courses. Served on the Collingsworth County Public Library board. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. She served as historian and was a member of the 23 Psalm circle of the United Methodist Women (UMW). She was a member of La Paisana Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution since 1977 where she held many offices. A member of 1954 Study Club.

We will celebrate her life with graveside services at 10:30 Friday, August 27th in North Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. With Gene Weinette pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating.
