My beautiful big sister Sherry died from Covid at her home in Bedford, Texas. She leaves to mourn her son Eric as well as precious grandsons Austin and Ari. Our sisters Brenda, Tammy, and I (Ronda) miss her terribly. She is also fondly remembered by our step sisters Kim, Jill and Lisa.
Sherry was preceded in death by her daddy, Glenn Evans, our stepfather Gerald Coppedge, and by her grandparents, Clyde and Marie Chappell. She is laid to rest in our family plot near our grandparents.
Sherry was born in Lubbock to Glenn and Wanda (Chappell) Evans. She attended schools in Lubbock at Rush Elementary and McKenzie Jr. High. We moved to Lockhart Texas when our mother married Coach Gerald Coppedge. Sherry graduated from Lockhart High School in 1975. She was a very popular girl, cheerleader throughout High School and Head Cheerleader her Senior year. Many people remember her as being a lifeguard at the city pool each summer.
Sherry had a variety of jobs after high school and got an Associates degree in Ft. Worth. She worked for SORM - State Office of Risk Mgmt- workers comp for Texas state employees and for Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Sherry was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and attended Eagle Mountain Church. She was Pastors George and Terry (Copeland) Pearson's Personal Assistant for many years until her sudden and unexpected death. She was proud and happy to serve the Pearsons and loved them very much. She loved spending time with Austin and Ari most of all and was a wonderful and doting Mimi.
It is hard to sum up all of the wonderful things that she did and what she meant to us. We were so profoundly shocked and grieved that she died like she did- alone in her apartment. She had covid for a couple of weeks and had stated that she felt like she was getting much better. We all live hundreds of miles from her and called her every day. We were frantic when she didn't answer our calls and when the police did a well check on her they found her deceased in her bed.
It has been several months since she passed away and as I am finally able to write her memorial, I still can't believe that my beautiful sister is gone.
I know that my sisters and I are going to see her again. Not because she or we are good people but because we have all placed our faith and hope in Jesus Christ and believe in His promises. We are confident, I say, and willing to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
