Jose Pedro Alvarez, 92, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was born in Grullo, Venado, San Luis Postosi, Mexico on July 3, 1929, to Francisco and Antonia (Eufracio) Alvarez. Pedro married Tranquilina Gutierrez in 1964. Pedro arrived in Tahoka in the spring of 1959 working as a farmer and rancher in Dell City and Lynn and Terry County for many years before finally settling in Tahoka to raise his family in 1978. Pedro was of the Catholic Faith. Pedro was known to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Grandpa Pete, a loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and caring for his animals. To all his close friends and extended family, he was known as "Pedro El Gallero", a true and resilient cowboy who will be cherished and deeply missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jose Alvarez, Jr., Lupe Resendez, Angela Alvarez, Alex Alvarez, Tony Alvarez, Frank Alvarez, Sandra Morales, Isidro Alvarez, Rosa Alvarez, and Raul Alvarez; siblings, Margarita Alvarez and Lencha Leyva; 28 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Tranquilina and several siblings.

Open visitation will be held at Combest Family Funeral Homes, from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Nevels Memorial Cemetery.
