Duane "Tuffy" L. Johnson, age 87 of Rhinelander died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021. He was born June 1, 1934, in Elcho to Linn and Gladys (Anderson) Johnson. Duane is survived by his wife, Carole; children, Gary (Martha) Johnson of Elcho, Terry Johnson (Lee Oberto) of Bessemer, Mich., and Jerry "Moose" (Susie) Johnson of Rhinelander; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Virginia) Johnson of Marshfield; sisters-in-law, Linda Johnson of Texas, Edris Johnson of Rhinelander and Marie Johnson of Minnesota; other relatives and many friends. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Johnson; five brothers, Robert, James, Glen, Verne and Kenneth Johnson; two sisters, Mary Ellen Knuth and Peg Maney. A visitation will be held 10 a.m.-noon, Aug. 28, followed by a memorial service. Inurnment will take place at Northland Memorial Park. (Hildebrand Funeral Home)

Duane "Tuffy" L. Johnson, age 87 of Rhinelander, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021, at his residence under the care of Compassus Hospice and surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born on June 1, 1934 in Elcho, Wisconsin on the family homestead to Linn and Gladys (Anderson) Johnson. He attended Elcho Public Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Elcho High School. On the day of their graduation, Duane and his future wife, Carole Wyant, were engaged and soon after got married. In the same year Duane enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, studying Civil Engineering. He was employed with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for forty years, retiring as a Project Leader. Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing & traveling- especially to Canada. He also enjoyed traveling out west, watching sports and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and a past member of a men's bowling league.
