She was born June 30, 1943, in Aledo, Illinois to Harlan and Dorothy (Wood) Johnson. She married Thomas J. Brooks, November 24, 1979, in Cameron, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2015.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald (and Ellen) Callihan of Morrison, Illinois and Greg "Fatman" Callihan of East Galesburg, two daughters, Lori (and Phil) Bladel of Durant, Iowa, and Jodi (and Michael Pascarella) Kappesser of Syracuse, New York, two stepsons, Dan (and Danny Queen) Callihan of Jacksonville, Illinois and David Callihan of Abingdon, a brother, Kenny (and Elizabeth) Johnson of Clay Center, Kansas, two sisters, Sandra (and Louis) Powell of Aledo and Wanda (and Delano) O'Haver of Farmington, Illinois, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, William Todd Callihan, a brother, James Clyde "Butch" Johnson, two sisters, Connie May Johnson and Judy Newton, a grandchild, Blake Marie Callihan, and a great-grandchild, Jesse Alexander Callihan. She is also survived by her four-legged children, Lucy and Lester, and preceded by Mr. T and Eddie.
Peggy was a lab technician for Maytag Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for over 40 years and retired in 1998. She was a member of a sewing club and quilting guild in Galesburg. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to sew and crochet. She enjoyed going to the gambling boats. She was very competitive and loved playing croquet with the family. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and organizing family "get together's".
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Knox County Humane Society.
