Terry J. Young of Emmett, Idaho passed away on August 12, 2021 at his home with family by his side. Terry battled Alzheimer's for several years and was in the care of family and hospice at the time of his passing.
Terry was born in Emmett on February 25, 1948, to Dillard and Charlotte Young. He was the middle of three boys, all about one year apart, Gary, (the oldest) and Jerry (the youngest). Terry married Linda McLaws on Sept 19, 1970. They had one son and daughter, Chad and Tammy. Chad married Stacy Hines and had three children, Connor, Brennan and Abigail. Tammy married Keven Larson and had one son, Tyler. Terry was very close to his immediate and extended family which included many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Terry grew up with his brothers working the family farm while attending Emmett schools. He was drafted into the United States Army after high school. He reconnected with his wife, Linda, while on leave from the Army. After his military service, he and Linda soon married and started a family in Emmett. They purchased their first and only home in Emmett on 4th Street. Terry worked at Boise Cascade for over 30 years until it shut down in 2001. He then worked with at-risk youth in Eagle, Idaho for several years before retiring in 2009.
Terry had a very wide skill set and always kept busy. He spent countless hours remodeling his home, working on vehicles, and helping others with various projects. Whether it was helping or just socializing with others; he genuinely loved people.
Terry also enjoyed old cars, motorcycles and being in the mountains. One specific highlight included a back-road motorcycle trip with his father and brothers through the Idaho and Montana mountains. During his retirement years, he and Linda enjoyed spending much of their summer in Cascade. They owned a park model home there and spent many evenings socializing and sharing dinners with friends and family. He was especially proud of his carpentry work included a large add-on living and screen room.
Along with being a loving husband and father, Terry was a true servant of God. His grandparents started the Church of Christ in Emmett. He was a fixture of the church and served many roles: Sunday school teacher, song leader and treasurer just to name a few. Serving God and being part of the Church was a mainstay in his life. There is no doubt his life on earth will be rewarded in heaven.
Terry's unforgettable smile and laugh will sorely be missed by his many family and friends.
