SONJA MARIE NELSON November 30, 1946 July 4th 2021. We celebrate the life of Sonja Nelson (Kaupanger) who passed away on Independence Day, 2021. As the oldest sister in a family of seven, Sonja was often the caretaker for her younger siblings. After moving to Oroville with her family as a teenager, Sonja enrolled at Las Plumas High School and graduated in 1963. Over the following 30 years in Oroville, Sonja got to know many people through her work, church, and social life. She had a long career working for Butte County in various departments, and retired after many years of service as a Clerk in the Superior Court. Her husband Jim was the love of her life and they shared many happy years together before his passing in 2003. Sonja was many things to many people in her life, a loving wife, a big sister, a guardian, a trusted friend, and a person who often reached out with kindness to others. Her laugh was contagious and her smile could light up a room. As well as her friends, Sonja leaves behind four sisters, a brother, and many nephews who will miss her. To honor her wishes, there will be no service and Sonja will be laid to rest beside her dear husband Jim at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all who made Sonja's life so full and robust. Good night, Sweetheart. May you have peace after a life well lived.
