Katie was born in Empire, Georgia, to John and Ida Smith. She grew up in Roddy and Chester but lived most of her life in Cochran, Georgia. She graduated from Chester High School in 1952 and was in the first class to graduate through twelve grades at Chester High School. She made her home with her husband Marvin and was a homemaker for most of her life but also was employed by the Bleckley County school system for many years in the lunch room. Also, she was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church, and at her death she was the most senior member. She taught Sunday school for 53 years at Lakeview Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church.
Katie loved her family. She was the ultimate cook. She had the gift of serving, and it meant so much for her to cook for the people she loved. Other things about her, she loved gardening and had a beautiful yard with a variety of flowers. She was known for sending cards for many occasions that always included her favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6. This verse sums up her trust and faith in God and how she lived it out.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Johnson; son, David Johnson; daughter, Jennifer Brady; grandson, Chuck Johnson; and great grandson, Tristin Johnson; brothers: Martin Smith and J.M. Smith; sisters: Irene Fordham, Ethel Kirkpatrick, Opal Chapman, and Peggy Purser.
Survivors include her son, Steven (Cheryl) Johnson, her daughter Kay (Steve) Elliott; grandsons, Quentin Johnson, Jeremy (Lauren) Johnson, Andrew Elliott, and Jake Brady; granddaughters: Nikki (Randall) Stephens, Karin (Jared) Johnson, Katie Elliott; great granddaughters: Selena Johnson, Khloe Johnson, Autumn Johnson; great grandsons: Hayden Reynolds, Hunter Johnson, Colton Stephens, Jace Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
