By 1930, his family lived in Palo Verde, Arizona; after the death of his mother in 1934, Wayne lived with his father and his siblings near Tempe, Arizona. Wayne Ross enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving aboard the "U.S.S. Sicard." After the war, he returned to Arizona, residing in Tempe.
