Mr. James Denton Peters (Jim), 80, transitioned from his earthly life on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at The Shannon Gray Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born on October 15, 1940 in Lenoir City, TN to the late Denton and Inez Peters. He attended High Point High School where he played football. He served in the US army from 1959 to 1962. Jim went on to become a life insurance salesman in the High Point area until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by wife Helen Gregory Peters, mother to their two children, Carol and Scott.

Jim was a devoted father to his two children and a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He had a strong love for music and sang in the Lebanon church choir. He was a member of several different musical groups, latest being 'Golden Memories'. The groups would perform at nursing homes, church events and other venues. He found great satisfaction bringing joy to others by sharing his faith through music. After retirement he joined Roy Culler Senior Center where he met his wife Jean Butler Peters where their shared love for chair volleyball turned into a shared love for each other. They were ambassadors for the High Point Senior Games, winning many medals in various events throughout the years. Jim was a member of Lebanon UMC, where he served on the Board of Trustees as past chairman as well as serving for several other committees. He served his community through volunteering at Pierced Ministry, the Food Pantry and other outreach missions and was awarded the Laity Service Award. Jim was a man defined by love; love for his family, extended family and church family. Loving, passionate and hardworking, Jim always found the humor in every situation and always knew how to make those around him laugh, even up till his final days. He will be well missed and forever well loved by his community around him.

He is survived by his wife Jean Butler Peters, sister Nancy McGee (Ken) niece Christy McGee, children Carol Peters and Scott Peters (Amy), grandchildren Ashley Matney (Nate), Luke Matney (Shannon), Avery Peters and Rylee Peters. Great-grandchildren Issac, Lily and Andrea (Andie), stepchildren Lynn Alexander (Reggie), Janet Lashley (Ed) and step-grandchildren Zachary, Gabrielle, Juliet and Jillian.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held August 23, 2021 at 11:00am at Lebanon UMC, 237 Idol St, High Point, NC 27262. Burial will be held at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00am at the church prior to the service.
