Rincon – Gary L. Sutherland, 79, passed away August 19, 2021 at his residence.

Born August 13, 1942 in Pittsburgh, PA, he attended Grove City, PA public schools and graduated in 1960 at Grove City High School. He was saved at age 12 in Bible School in First Baptist Church, Grove City, PA. He entered the U.S. Army in 1962, after basic training he went to Japan for 2 years and Vietnam for 5 months, he was honorably discharged in November of 1964.

In December of 1965 he married Peggy. He entered Bob Jones University in 1966 and graduated in 1970 with a BS in Business Administration. For 8 years he set up business departments for 2 different companies. From 1978 – 1981 while Peggy worked with the nursing department at Pensacola Christian College, he taught Bible in 7th grade, coached high school track and gave college tours. In 1981 he accepted a position as manager at Redfield Rifle Scopes in Denver, CO, becoming National Sales Manager. He was there from 1981 – 1988. In 1989 he accepted a position as manager at Ron Shirk Shooter's Supplies and was there until he retired in 2005.

In 2005, he was a handy man for Calvary Baptist Church in Watertown, while Peggy started the nursing program at Maranatha Baptist University. He also taught an auto mechanic class for 7th – 8th graders at Calvary Christian School which they loved.

In 2008, he and Peggy retired to build a home in Slippery Rock, PA along Slippery Rock Creek (a beautiful sight). It was part of Peggy's father large farm. In 2019, the property began to become a burden with lots of care with grass mowing and plowing snow. Peggy developed a heart problem, so they moved to Rincon, GA to be close to Daniel, hoping to spend time in Wisconsin with John. (Too cold to retire there!) During their time in PA they finished their "bucket list" and visiting the last few states they had not seen, finishing by seeing all 50 states!

His greatest joys were: traveling the west with John and Daniel while they were in school, hunting big game with them in CO and WY and fishing in streams in the Rocky Mountains, establishing Sportsmen Banquets at Calvary Baptist Church and Slippery Rock Baptist Church with up to 500 men and women attending and some getting saved during the presentation of the gospel during the programs, the many good friends he made over the years in the hunting industry and attending many hunting shows and traveling for hunting expeditions, and spending time with his sons, daughter-in-law, and his 3 grandsons.

Praise the Lord for a good life!!! He was a good and faithful servant who ran the race gratefully.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Miriam Sutherland and brother Samuel Guntrum.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sutherland; sons and daughter-in-law, John Mark Sutherland and Daniel James Sutherland and Korin Sutherland; grandsons, Aston, Aidan, and Evan Sutherland; sister, Bonnie Urey.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, August, 23, 2021 at Rincon Baptist Temple.

Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Rincon Baptist Temple, P.O. Box 253, Rincon, GA 31326 for the college funds of Evan and Aidan Sutherland and/or the Wilds Couey Fund.
