George Shelton, age 55, of Clarksville, entered the joy of the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Tennova Healthcare.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the Church of Christ at Trenton Crossing, 2650 Trenton Road, Clarksville, TN with Geoffrey Sikes and Jason Allison officiating.

George entered this life on April 5, 1966, in Clarksville, TN to the late Jim and Pearl Shelton. He was a self-employed contractor who was superbly skilled in closet design, trim carpentry, and bathroom remodeling.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ at Trenton Crossing (formerly the Madison Street Church of Christ) and served as a board member at Lylewood Christian Camp for three decades until his passing. Lylewood was—by far—George's favorite ministry, and his love of Christ and children made it the perfect place for him to feel right at home. In his role as treasurer for the camp, George always ensured that every child who wanted to attend Lylewood would be able to do so regardless of lack of funds.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Joe and Jim Shelton.

Survivors include his sisters, Sally Shelton, Betty Shelton, and Nancy Carol Shelton. He is also survived by his niece, Beatrice Gustafson, whom he raised as his own daughter. Also left to cherish his memory is great-nephew, Aidan Gustafson, and great-niece, Kinsley Gustafson. George also leaves behind hundreds of adopted nieces and nephews whom he has mentored through his devoted service at Lylewood Christian Camp since the 1980s.

Given George's passion for Lylewood and his simplicity, his body will be cremated and scattered at Lylewood Christian Camp at a future date.

Memorial contributions are in the care of the Yow Foundation, Inc., to help with family expenses.
