Dewey Newell Adamson
April 27, 1925 ~ July 14, 2020 (age 95)
Dub was born April 27, 1925 in Pleasant Grove to Newell Dewey 'Dew' and Margaret Graham Adamson. His father owned sheep and he couldn't wait for school to get out so he could spend all of his summers at the sheep herd on the summer range in Strawberry Valley. There, he and his brother Bob and cousin Tom spent as much time as they could riding horses, fishing, and hunting.
He graduated from Pleasant Grove HS in 1943. He always said that they handed him his graduation certificate in one hand and his draft notice in the other. He was inducted into the Army that summer and went into the infantry. He first went to North Africa and then to Italy. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was wounded April 24, 1945, 3 days before his 20th birthday and 2 weeks before the end of the war in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart Medals.
After returning from the war he married his sweetheart, Eloise Shields, May 2, 1946. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple November 21, 1947. They spent their honeymoon at the sheep herd. After the sheep were sold, he worked at Geneva Steel for over 30 years. They made their home next to his parents in Pleasant Grove, where he lived out the remainder of his life in Monkey Town. Eloise died in 1989. He later married Reva Hunsaker Price April 7, 1990. She passed away June 20, 2015.
He continued to hunt until he was unable to hike and loved fishing with his son, Myron, in Myron's boat on Strawberry Reservoir. But, most of all he loved all of his family and being with them. He also loved Scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle, the 1st of 4 generations of Eagle Scouts in his family.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, bearing his testimony the Sunday before his death. He served as a counselor in a bishopric, a Stake High Counselor and in the baptistry at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.
He is survived by his sister Geraldine 'Geri' Peay, brother D. Kay Adamson, son Dennis N. (Marty) Adamson, Kathryn 'Kathy' (Ronnie) Covington, Myron D. Adamson and a daughter-in-law, Joann Adamson, 14 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Stepchildren: Cheryl (Glenn) Tenney, Janene (Lane) Wilson, John (Rebekka) Price, Kelly (Kara) Price, Susan (Matt) Wathen and Greg (Sharon) Price. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Eloise and Reva, sisters Jean Oler and Maxine 'Max' Sadleir, brother Robert G 'Bob' Adamson, son Don M. Adamson, daughter-in-law Lisa Adamson, and great grandson Kodyn Callie Peterson. We would like to thank Ann Jacobs for all of her assistance in caring for Dad.
