Emmett was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Thomas and Eva (Lovett) Jones, was educated in the Hartford Public School System, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. For most of his adult life, Joe worked in construction and was a member of Local #230 Labor Union. Some of his work included the building of the Annie Fisher School, UCONN Medical Center, UCONN Law School, and the Hartford Civic Center, to name a few. After retiring from construction, he was employed by the Hartford School System.
In 1934, he and his mother joined Hopewell Baptist Church, which was located on Wooster Street in Hartford. In his later years, Joe spent most mornings at Dunkin Donuts discussing world affairs with his friends Shane Graywolf, Mary Laiuppe and Steve Lessor, now deceased.
Joe's legacy will continue through his children, Carl Jones of Bloomfield, Valerie Jennings and her husband Joseph Leon of Windsor, Cynthia Jones-Watson and her husband Elliott of Bloomfield, Deborah Freeman of Bloomfield, Lisa West and her husband Aaron of West Hills, CA, and a special daughter, Beverly J. Callis of Windsor; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Gail Jones; son, Thomas B. Jones; granddaughter, Tammie Payne Jones; and infant brother, Carl Jones. To honor his request, the family will have a private burial in Mountain View Cemetery. His family will receive friends for a time of food, fellowship, and remembrance on Saturday August 21, 2021, 12 Noon, at The Lodge, 130 Deerfield Road, Windsor.
