Robert Julius Mueller
June 3, 1925 – April 14, 2021

Robert J. Mueller passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021 in Corvallis, Oregon with his family by his side. Robert "Bob" was born to Amanda and Julius Mueller in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 3, 1925, and grew up during the great depression. The youngest of four siblings, he was preceded in death by his brother Howard, and sisters Norma and Lorraine. In Bob's early years he spent many summers enjoying his uncle's cabin, fishing, swimming and sailing on Big Cedar Lake. In 1943 Bob enlisted in the US Navy and left Milwaukee. Serving on board the USS Cooner, a Destroyer Escort during World War II, he made multiple Atlantic crossings, and fought in the Pacific Campaign until the end of the war. Bob served in the Navy until his discharge in February 1946.
In 1945, while visiting his sister Lorraine in California, he met his future wife Marie Borchers, from Napa, at a Lutheran Church social. Marie and Bob were married on April 27, 1946 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa, California, and made Napa their home for the next 70 years. Bob and Marie relocated to Corvallis Oregon in 2016. Marie and Bob were married for 73 years, until Marie's passing in 2019.
Bob completed the Carpenter's Apprentice Program in 1947, and over the next 30 years worked in construction. He started his career working for Vienop Construction, later moved to Bickford Construction, and finished his career with Royce Hall Construction, all in Napa. Bob supervised the construction of many schools, wineries and other commercial projects in the area, and built his first family house on Penny Lane in Napa by hand.
Bob and Marie started a family in 1947 with the birth of Robert Jr., followed thereafter by James and Michael. A few of his favorite things included gardening, good German food, reading and spending time outdoors. He especially loved camping, fishing and hunting. Bob spent many years boating and fishing on Lake Berryessa, where they had a lakeside trailer home. It was here that he spent time teaching his grandchildren, friends and other family members to water ski and fish. Bob treasured his beloved nickname "Opa" which he used following the passing of his father.
In 2017 Bob returned to his cherished Big Cedar Lake for the last time, where he saw his extended family and enjoyed a swim at the age of 92! He also had one final family reunion in Corvallis, Oregon in 2019 where he regaled the group with his stories and jokes.
Bob is survived by a large family; his three sons, four grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy! He left many fond memories and stories which are held in the hearts of those who loved and knew him.
Private interment will be at Tulocay Cemetery, Napa.
